Champion Homes has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation and has committed to planting one tree for every tree used in a Champion home, initially as part of the Time for Trees™ initiative. Since the beginning of the partnership in 2021, we have supported the planting of 1,203,374 trees across North America. Read on to learn about some of the specific projects Champion Homes has supported!
Longleaf Pines in Alabama
More specifically from November 2023 to May 2024, Skyline Champion Homes directly supported the planting of 90,000 longleaf pine trees in forest ecosystems across Alabama. At one point in time, the longleaf pine trees dominated the South but the loss of ecosystem has been detrimental to this now endangered species in recent years. The trees were planted on various private lands throughout the state and will help increase habitat connectivity and biodiversity of regional wildlife for many years.
Beanblossom Floodplain in Indiana
Superior National Forest in Minnesota
We are working on planting 34,800 trees in the Superior National Forest in Minnesota to help improve the habitat and biodiversity of the forest known for its boreal forest ecosystem, lakes, and wildlife. The forest has been facing challenges due to the decline in conifer species trees that are disrupting the balance and hurt the wildlife habitat and water quality. A variety of pines, cedars, spruces, and birch will be planted to help reflect the natural diversity of the forest that has been lost.
Calhoun County Hurricane Restoration Project in Florida
We have planted 30,000 trees in the Apalachicola National Forest after storm damage from Hurricane Michael destroyed the area, hindering important ecological services for both humans and wildlife. The planting is focused on returning native conifers to the landscape, important for the habitats of animals such as alligators, black bears, bald eagles, herons, tortoises, armadillos, and the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.
We hope to have planted at least 1.5 million trees by the end of 2024 with the Arbor Day Foundation® in support of our overall mission to provide clean air and water, healthy food, and a livable climate for ourselves and generations to come.
Champion Homes not only dedicates itself to providing the most high-quality factory-built homes but is passionate about being environmentally conscious while doing so. Since partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation®, Champion Homes has helped to plant over 1.2 million trees, restored 2,154 acres of land, and completed 33 projects. These efforts help sequester carbon dioxide, remove air pollutants, and avoid excess water runoff. Champion has also adopted environmentally conscious practices in our operations, including a recycling program, and continues to focus on additional ways to lessen our operational impact on the environment.
